Postpartum Doula? Night Nurse? Night Nanny? Whats The Difference?

One of the most confusing things for many new parents who plan to hire a professional for overnight and daytime newborn care is who is the best fit? Do I want or need a night nurse? I’ve heard great things about a postpartum doula. Is that what I should be looking for? What about a night nanny?

All of these questions are valid and Kansas City Newborn Care makes the decision a breeze!

First lets walk through what each one is.

A postpartum doula is a trained professional in the postpartum period. They are pro’s at ensuring that your postpartum period is smooth and enjoyable. Postpartum doulas want you to feel supported, well rested, well fed and overall joyful! Postpartum doulas often help you work through complicated emotions that come with this new time in your life. They are truly postpartum angels waiting to support you!

A night nanny takes a similar approach to overnight care without the overarching care for the family. They are often there to support baby during the night time stuff so parents can get the sleep they need.

Night nurses are trained nurses (RN, CRN etc) who care for your baby during the day and night. They are more closely related to the postpartum doula but have the expertise of a nurse. Night nurses are the an amazing addition to any team!
